Pacific Gas and Electric Pipeline reconditioning Project
Gilroy / Hollister California
August 2002

Pipeline Owner:

Pacific Gas and Electric

Contractor:

Mears Group Inc.

Problem:

Steep terrain conditions and unavailability of select fill made "padding" difficult and uneconomical.

Job Description:

Excavation of 3,500 feet of 34" pipe, Scrape exterior of the pipe to remove the deteriorated Coal Tar enamel coating, Sandblast to near white finish, Spray-apply Powercrete J coating, Re-bury the pipeline with sufficient rockshield protection.

Remedy:

Wrap pipeline with custom size 3/8" x 72" x 111" yellow, Flexible PVC, Tuff-N-Nuff protective wrap instead of using a padding machine.

Comments:

"The flexible Tuff-N-Nuff pads were received in the exact size needed to install on this 34-inch pipeline with no cutting or wasted material".

Installation was fast and the Tuff-N-Nuff design allowed Mears to finish the job "2 days ahead of schedule and under-budget"

"We are confident that this pipeline will be protected and operating for many, many years thanks to Tuff-N-Nuff".
